Taiwan Tips - Unique Home Stay

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

The differences between homestays and hotels lie in their operators, business models, management philosophies, and operational scale. Homestays are usually run by individuals or families, while hotels are managed by companies or groups. Secondly, homestays typically operate in a family-style manner and provide simple accommodation services, while hotels operate in a professional manner and offer complete accommodation facilities and services such as restaurants, conference rooms, swimming pools, etc. Additionally, homestays usually focus on local culture, natural scenery, ecology, environmental resources, and agricultural, forestry, fishery and animal husbandry production activities, providing accommodation for travelers seeking a rural living experience. Hotels, on the other hand, usually emphasize standardization, efficiency, and pursuit of comfort and luxury.

Chishang Township

On the rural roads of Chishang Township in Taitung, Taiwan, there is a picturesque scene with swaying rice paddies on both sides. This popular spot, known as "Brown Boulevard," gained fame from the filming of an advertisement for a famous coffee brand. In the middle of Brown Boulevard, there is a winding path where a well-known celebrity once came to ride a bicycle for a commercial shoot. The endless green rice fields on both sides sway with the wind, earning it the reputation of being a "serene road to paradise."

The most beautiful time to visit Chishang is during the rice harvest seasons, which occur twice a year in late June, early July, and late October to early November. It is during these times that the scenery is at its most enchanting, as the golden rice fields reach their peak beauty.
